Greenpeace China is seeking a Campaigner to play a central role in its Toxics Campaign.
Greenpeace China’s Toxics Campaign is expanding its efforts to curb water pollution in China. The campaign involves a fast paced work environment and requires a high level of flexibility, intellectual rigour, passion and motivation. The Campaigner will work together with team members to develop and implement effective campaign strategies and projects to combat water pollution.
The Campaigner works under the general direction of the Toxics Team Manager of Greenpeace China. The position demands considerable independence and initiative as well as rigorous analytical skills. It also requires the ability to work well within a team setting. Please note that we are looking for a candidate who possesses superior communication skills and is fluent in English and Mandarin as the position will involve acting as a spokesperson for the organization.
JOB DESCRIPTION:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Campaigner will provide specialized campaign expertise in Greenpeace’s ongoing or emerging campaign works as designated by the Campaign Director or his/her designate. Through participation on Greenpeace China and Greenpeace International Campaign Team(s) the Campaigner is directly involved in the development and implementation of campaign strategies, proposals and policy. The Campaigner will also work with external coalition partners to further Greenpeace’s campaign goals.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Provides campaign expertise with respect to a specialized campaign area. Keeps abreast of issues. Conducts investigations.
2.Works with teammates to develop and implement effective campaign plans and strategies to draw attention to ecological abuse (e.g. through non violent direct confrontations, spectacular actions, lobbying, various outreach events).
3.Maintains an active liaison with potential and established allied groups and coalition partners. Actively seeks out and participates in discussions with influential individuals and groups. Communicates with national/ provincial/ local officials related to environment policies and issues.
4.Researches and analyzes a wide range of specialized material on campaign issues and strategies. May be required to do media work.
5.Promotes support within Greenpeace to advance campaign goals. Works with other teammates and organizes rallies, protests, demonstrations, actions, community activities and other public events. Makes presentations and responds to public speaking requests. Initiates requests with strategically targeted groups.
6.Responds to public inquiries about campaign issues and other matters. Prepares materials and publications. Attends and/or organizes conferences.
7.Other duties as assigned by the Campaign Manager.

5.Tact and Enthusiasm: to function effectively within a highly charged atmosphere, under public scrutiny.
6.Computer Skills: to utilize word processing and telecommunications capabilities; to develop written materials on campaign issues and strategies.
KNOWLEDGE
1.Knowledge of the overall goals and intent of Greenpeace (including policies, guidelines, programs, campaigns and project activities): to lead campaign activities in support of the world’s largest environmental protection group.
2.Knowledge of environment/ecology issues in general: to provide specialized campaign expertise; to promote a precautionary approach to genetic engineering and long-term viability and biodiversity of ecosystems in China and Internationally.
3.Knowledge of the media including responsibilities, equipment, techniques, policies, practices, scope, audience, tactics, structure, impact: to use the media to further campaign objectives; to increase awareness and gain public support; to communicate with relevant industry and government.
4.Knowledge of campaign techniques, strategies and practices: to provide key leadership and assume the role of campaign specialist with respect to a critical area of ecological concern.
